The Department of Natural Gas Engineering was established in 2007. It is a community of outstanding researchers, experienced educators, and talented students. It has significant achievements in scientific research and preparing students for creative careers in gas industry and government.nWe offer programs in developing interdisciplinary specialties, as well as in the more traditional areas of Natural Gas Engineering, as well as Geoengineering and Borehole Mining programme studies. The BSc and MSc programmes are tailored to industrial needs, which guarantees recognition of your diploma. The Department of Natural Gas Engineering brings researchers together in the field of: development and exploitation of gas and gas-condensate reservoirs, underground gas storage in porous media and salt caverns, carbon dioxide sequestration in gas reservoirs and coal seams, transmission and distribution networks, designing of technological processes in LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminals and installations, natural gas processing, fluid mechanics & thermodynamics, and economics in the gas industry. The Department laboratories, with unique and professional equipment, are an ideal place for those seeking innovative solutions. The Department of Natural Gas Engineering broadly cooperates with industry and research entities in Poland and abroad. As a result, joint international and domestic grants are taken advantage of, numerous publications, expert opinion and patents are published. Scientific projects relate to static and dynamic reservoir modelling, EGR, CCS, CCSU, UGS, smart grids and energy storage.

The Department of Petroleum Engineering was established in 2007. The scientific research and educational activities are uniquely focused on the specific needs of the petroleum industry, explore challenges currently faced by petroleum engineers worldwide and aim at creating future industry leaders . A wide range of subjects taught, especially STEM subjects, ensures strong appreciation of all key elements of the industry lifecycle and different areas of engineering required, such as understanding of how they work together to deliver projects safely and efficiently. The Department of Petroleum Engineering brings researchers together in the field of geology, exploration, production and economics in the petroleum industry. This Department has excellent laboratory facilities, extensive experience in computer modelling and continues cooperation with oil companies. It works jointly with research entities in Poland and abroad, which allows to perform international and domestic grants, publish numerous publications, and prepare patents. The Department carries out scientific projects related to static and dynamic reservoir modelling, EOR-CCS and optimization, hydraulic fracturing and optimization. Laboratory experiments are also made in conjunction with environmental investigations. The BSc and MSc programmes in Geology, Drilling Engineering and Petroleum Engineering are tailored to the industrial needs, which guarantees recognition of your diploma by all relevant bodies and getting the best first-hand experience possible.

The Department of Drilling at the Faculty of Mining has been in existence since 1923. Presently, as the Department of Drilling and Geoengineering within the structures of the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas, it continues educational and research activities focusing on the following issues: designing of wildcats, exploratory, step-outs, infills and re-entries wellbores, taking into account directional and unconventional drilling. The Department carries out works also in the area of geoengineering and develops methods of providing geothermal energy through geothermal boreholes and borehole heat exchangers, as well as heat storage in rock mass. In addition, the Department staff carries out works in the area of computer designing and simulations. Apart from its own original computer programs (e.g. 3D–Drill, Rheo Solution, Flow–Fluid Coef, HDDRigAdvisor, BoHEx), the Department also has commercial software: ANSYS Fluent, FRAC Pro and products from Landmark and Schlumberger. There are eight research/educational laboratories in the Department of Drilling and Geoengineering at the Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
